Conas Síntí Fada A Dhéanamh
How to Make Fadas (Accent Marks)

1. on an Apple Mac

Simultaneously press <option> and the vowel you want to be accented.

2. on newer Apple products

Hold your finger down on the vowel you want accented and a selection of diacritical marks will pop up above it, including the fada.

3. in Microsoft WORD using the us-international keyboard

Search on the internet how to set your keyboard to us-international. It’s pretty tricky and requires several steps, but go ahead and do it. If you type an apostrophe, nothing will happen. But if you type the apostrophe followed by the vowel which you want accented, you’ll get your choice of á é í ó ú . If you set your CAPS LOCK and repeat the process, you’ll get your choice of Á É Í Ó Ú.

4. Using ASCII codes

On a US-English PC: hold down the key and type one of the following numbers on the numeric keypad of your keyboard ( with NumLock on ). After you type the number, let go of the key

á 160

ó 162

ú 163

é 130

í 161

Á 0193

Ó 0211

Ú 0218

É 144

Í 0205

5. In Microsoft WORD using the UK-English keyboard

Hold down the Alt Gr button (just to the right of the space key) and key the letter.

6. In Microsoft WORD using the U.S. keyboard

On U.S. keyboards, open Microsoft Word. Select the Insert tab on the Ribbon or click Insert in the menu bar. On the Insert tab or the Insert drop-down, select the Symbol option. Select the desired accented character or symbol from the list of symbols.

7. Use the software called 'EasyReader'.
